America Recovers Announces Official Partnership Supporting the Military Community in Hampton Roads
MHA Gap Initiative Joins America Recovers as a Flagship Program
Lovettsville, VA — America Recovers – a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on providing support to the military community, at risk youth, and individuals in underserved and rural communities – announced today that the Military Housing Allowance (MHA) Gap Initiative, based in the Hampton Roads area, has become an official program for America Recovers, effective immediately.
Becky Scheusner, who founded the initiative and has been leading the effort since March 2020, has joined America Recovers as its Executive Director and will continue to lead the MHA Gap Initiative program in this volunteer capacity.
“This is an exciting development for America Recovers,” said Christena “CJ” Johnston-Pulliam, the Chairman of the Board of America Recovers. “The MHA Gap Initiative is an ideal flagship program for us, with their support of veterans and family members to ensure their ability to complete educational opportunities by working with local employers that will hire these students during school breaks.”
Johnston-Pulliam added, “We are excited to have Becky on board and to provide support to the program as we work together to improve the lives of veterans and their families in building thriving and resilient communities in which they live and work.”
“Joining forces with America Recovers allows the MHA Gap Initiative to expand our capacity and ability to support military-affiliated students during times of economic stress,” said Scheusner. “With our collective, ‘yes, if…’ approach, we look forward to continuing to connect spouses, dependents, and veterans from unique backgrounds studying a variety of subjects to companies of any size with myriad needs.”
If you want more information on how to get involved, please contact Becky Scheusner, Executive Director, America Recovers at email@example.com or (504) 258-6350.
America Recovers (AR) provides training, mentoring, and support to individuals impacted by life altering situations and to those that protect our Nation – first responders, public safety workers, and our military community. AR began as an idea to help people and communities recover from disasters. At first it was a concept, then an organized entity, and today it is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Virginia. AR teaches individuals, communities, and organizations how to plan for recovery by partnering with other organizations that provide crisis management support. AR also supports workforce development in rural areas and underserved communities by providing scholarships to veterans, at risk youth, and individuals seeking training/re-training. The vision is to support individuals interested in increasing their own resilience to life’s challenges who also want to give back and help others in their community.
The MHA Gap Initiative is a Hampton Roads collaborative of business, education, and local organizations working to source paid work opportunities for military-affiliated students experiencing a gap in financial stability during academic breaks. Additionally, the Initiative serves to drive economic growth for communities as America recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
